My friend still in, has been lamenting going to 3 meetings a week for years, was overjoyed and said the kh broke out in clapping. I said I was very happy for her, but a little puzzled that we had toiled away for over 40 years with 3 meetings a week believing the scripture in Heb10..24,25...all the more so as the day draws near. She felt jah had anwsered her prayers..didnt have the heart to disagree..poor thing. Strange about the jubilation...maybe nobody likes the meetings anyway.

Book Study "provision from Jehovah" quotes KM, so why cancelled by GB?
by yesidid inyou will notice that in both these km articles they say the cbs is "a loving arrangement from jehovah".
if that is the case it begs the question: .
what right have they to stop it?

Some one mentioned that the problem of gas prices was part of the reason for the disbanding of a third weekly meeting. I have to comment on that as it seems that once again a corporate business is thinking in terms of money first. I think it is laughable when we hear of the experiences of brothers in yearbooks walking for miles through snake infested jungles to get to meetings and here we have our "poor" brothers in USA having to pay a bit more for gas....try europes prices...they would have you gasping! Still I dont knock less meetings....fewer the better...I just dont buy their reasoning. They probably have to give more money out to the bethel bros for getting to and fro from the meetings...that hurts!
Poor african brothers and sisters all that effort for what is really not that important anymore.

Film "Worlds Apart," screened in NYC - GO SEE IT
by NYCkid inhello, just want to highly recommend the danish film, "worlds apart" now being screend at the tribeca film festival in new york.
the acting is superb and the filmakers represent the witnesses accurately (to the "t") withoug making them appear fanatic.
after all, these are people sincere in their beliefs no matter how absurd.

I saw it in January and it is still running in the cinema here in Scandinavia. The girl the story is based on had a full page report in a large newspaper (danish) last year and many have been to see the movie. Very well portrayed and a difficult one to watch if you have been through something similar.
I love tha part when her boyfriend confronts the jw view that all except jws will die at the big A. Riverting!

Hello Helen,
I really could feel empathy with you when I read how you feel at the moment. I stopped attending meetings nearly one year ago after attending from the age of 3...44 years in all. I have had the same feelings of guilt and not knowing where I am with myself. In the last year I have met some wonderful people. I just be myself I dont have to preach to them or expect anything from them other than that we can be friends. I have got involved with a couple of local charities and have seen things that leave me astonished. I have made friends with an elderly woman who uses all her money and time on helping very poor people in rumania. I can honestly say that my husband and I and our children have never been happier than we are now.
Still it has taken a year of turmoil emotionally to come this far. Dont give up, dont go back, dont regret either. I am what I am because of the time as a jw, so I accept that. But now I am moving on and boy am I happy I am.
Read a lot...go to womens clubs...invite a neighbour over for coffee. If you are disappointed in someone, try again. Join a fitness club, meet friends on the net.
Watch the movie then ask your friend if she wants to go away for a weekend...do it! You will have great fun and you will open up to each other.
I wish you all the best and much joy in your life

What do you think of todays youth?
by dawg inas many of you know, i live in a college town and therefore i'm around people much younger than me almost all day.
here's one thing i've noticed, the youth today have left the god of the bible behind.
they have been brought up in a world where information is available at a very rapid rate and have already figured out the biblical god is a fairy tale.

Why does believing in God have to be the touchstone of whether youths are good, moral or whatever else you want to call them.. My daughter left jws at the age of 18 and told me she saw more immorality concealed behind "goody twoshoes" witness facade among her peers in the cong. than she saw among her worldly collage students. I was still a jw at the time and tried to defend our standpoint...believing in God makes you a better person etc. I do not believe that anymore...people are good. Some are unfortunate to have a bad deal in life...others are wired wrongly upstairs...some are mean and awful...I teach my kids to be the best they can. I admire young people for living in a world that we messed up...we as in collective. Where there is life there is hope...give them some space.

JW spanking their kids
by asilentone inwhat do you think about jw spanking their kids at the kingdom hall?
-
chicken little
When our children were small it was the custom to smack the child if naughty at the kh. I am ashamed to think back that I accepted this practise with our own children. Mostly the pressure is from what others think of you. An elders wife who doesnt have perfect kids that sit still and pay attention is just not on. The rights of the child dont come into it...after all we are told that we are slaves of God and Christ so we have no rights. I hated myself for the way that I was at the kh...I felt like the evil mother when I came home.
I stopped the practise and decided that I would never ever use smacking again...that was 12 years ago and since then we have had another child and he was no problem at the meetings, I just stopped caring what others thought. I was brought up with physical violence, (not smacking) and I always had to control myself because the pattern can repeat. I am grateful that I broke free from this dreadful behaviour and would always speak up if I saw it now. I dont go to anymore meetings or impose anymore society discipline on my little boy.
To those who are still in...if you have children and they are finding it hard at the meetings ...just go for a walk with them, eat and apple out the back or give them plenty of time in the toilets to calm down or unload. When we were on our way out I used the bathrooms constantly....I would sit out there for ages....and I am not a child!haha

Anybody remember this case?
by chicken little indoes anybody remember the case from italy, it involved a married couple who were new to the jw org and had a child that needed a transfusion.
they refused, the child died and they were both sent to prison for long terms of imprisonment.
we were often told of their great faith even so new in "the truth".

Urgency Enigma....
by hotspur inhow come an organization that is busting all out to get people through armageddon urgently is not teaching anything about survival?
any storm predicted (weather forecast) sees people scurrying around to protect themselves.
all that seems to happen in jw land is preparation for more printing.

Good question....the usual cop out is it will all be taken care of by Jehovah. But humans (survivors), are the body desposers so what about the obvious after effects that have to be dealt with. Just read an account about what would happen to the earth if all people disappeared. Within 2 days all sewage systems would overflow. Within 7 days the atomic reactors would explode and release their deadly contents as there would be no one to operate the cooling towers..So I wonder how many experts in those areas the Wt society has...no time to train them. As usual the difficult questions are never anwsered...we should not speculate...all is under control....Yep.

High incidence of demonic activity.
by chicken little inanyone wondered about the large numbers of jewish people in the 1st centuary that were under demon control?
the jews were very much warned to keep clear of demons and any occult practises.
i find it odd then that there are so many people coming to jesus with this problem.

Oh you poor thing.....cant you go on service with him as an observer (we used to allow that years ago, mind you it went wrong once or twice.) That way you could moderate him a bit.
In London we had a friend that took a really rough diamond with him to observe the ministry. When a householder became abusive our observer said to the brother...Oi, step aside bruver, i`ll deal wif this, and proceeded to tell the householder what he would do to him if he didnt act nice. Hilarious. You could be his minder!
